Feel Blessed Not Stressed

 By Kimberley Cohen

Many circumstances can create stress in people's lives - relationships, finances, the future, jobs, other people, health issues, loss of something or someone, demanding schedules, natural disasters, wars, unfairness, etc.

What or whom creates stress in your life?

We may handle and feel the effects of troubles differently, but what we all share in common is we have experienced stress to one degree or another.
If you ask your partner, friends, family members, co-workers, or anyone else for that matter if they ever become stressed, their answer would be, YES.

Stress is not something new, it is part of living. What's imperative though, is that you recognize when it's taking over and affecting your overall happiness, productivity, and/or health and well-being.

The level of stress can vary depending on what's creating the uneasiness and how many other things may also be going on at the same time.
Some people react to pressure by shutting down, or becoming angry, or easily frustrated.
Others try to convince themselves or someone else that everything is just fine, or they may take out how they are feeling on another person, or they experience more down days than up days, or find themselves overeating or eating very little, etc.
Do any of these sound familiar when you are feel stressed?

Stress is not always a pretty sight.
When you are aware that you are "wiggin out", a phrase my daughter and I use, then you can steer yourself through the storm full speed ahead, or at least with a little more ease with the horizon in sight again.

Some difficulties aren't as unsettling as others and you're able to bring things back to balance or harmony sooner, or you are able to put things back in perspective and get back on track with a big sigh of relief and often with some new insights.

You may have heard the saying, "Feel blessed not stressed", and depending on how you are feeling when you hear these words, this phrase can affect you differently.
It can promote an overall feeling of peace, hope, happiness, and on another day, quite the opposite.
Seeing the blessings when you are feeling strained and drained isn't always easy and they may seem few and far between.

The God-Sends are there whether you are having the best or worst day ever. Although, they are easier to see and appreciate when you are having a great day as opposed to a stressful one.
God, (whatever you believe this to be), sends us people when we need a shoulder to lean on or a helping hand, or come to the rescue in the midst of a disaster or devastating news, or words of wisdom or inspiration when needed, or hope when you are feeling hopeless, and offers the beauty of nature every day to still our busy minds, and in many more ways.

When you are feeling stressed, can you feel blessed?
Can you think of someone who was pleasant, kind, thoughtful, positive, calming, uplifting, moving, or something memorable in this moment?
How many were you able to come up with?
Remember, one thing is better than nothing.

When you are having stressful thoughts about a person or situation(s), see if you can find something that quiets the mind, or brings a smile to your face, or a little brightness to your day.
I can always count on nature to quiet the restless mind or events, or a friend or family member to lend a helping hand or their words of wisdom.

I can listen to a piece of music that stirs the soul or gets me moving and grooving again, or have a cup of tea, warm bath, curl up with a good book or cozy blanket, or light a candle, or put some fresh flowers in a vase to add a little comfort to my days.

I can re-read the things/people that I am grateful for from previous days, or a quote of inspiration when I need a little reminding that "this too shall pass".

There are still positives when things seem negative, and when you focus on them, it is easier to become victorious in your thoughts and being once again, and often you learn something about yourself that is valuable to moving forward.

Blessings can uplift you and make it easier to steer through the storms of life, so make sure you are counting as many as you can each and every day.

Use these techniques with insight to assist you through the stressful times and remember the blessings along your journey.
