By Jeanette Riggs

Planning a new house takes a lot of time and some serious considerations. One has to consider how big you want it, where you want to build it and of course how much you can afford when building it. This is a costly exercise and one should take care to spend your money wisely. This has to be an investment for life and you need to make some big decisions, such as selecting where your light bases will be going.

Although this may seem a little daunting, it is exciting at the same time. The mere thought that everything regarding the house is up to you means that you have to be clever when making some big decisions. That is why it is important to get some professional advice when it comes to things that you are a little unsure of.

Sometimes, visualizing the end product can be very difficult for some people. This makes it difficult when you have to plan some things. For those people, there are architectural engineers who will design the house and draw it out for you to get a good idea of what it will look like when it is finished.

As the owner of the house you will be responsible for absolutely everything in the house from the way the doors open to the positioning of the stove, the fittings, the position of the basins, toilets and showers and even the switches. This is why it is so important to think carefully when specifying details in the plans.

Lighting in a house is really very important. You need to take special care to position the lights in the house strategically so that the house is functional at night time. One still wants to be able to read and work when it is dark and the house need good illumination for this.

There will be many styles of light fittings to choose from for the different parts of the house. Usually for the kitchen, one wants at least two long fluorescent lights for perfect illumination while cooking at night. The brightness will be determined by the wattage of the globes and one will obviously have to go for a high wattage in order to get clear light.

One strong light in each of the bedrooms is quite adequate most of the time. These are usually centrally positioned so that there is an even spread. There are also many styles and fashions to choose from, and one should try to stay with the functional ones.

The exterior light bases of the house are also important and need to be correctly positioned. One should have a light outside the front door so that if you get guests at night you can see them. Another place for such a fitting will be wherever you park your car at night. This will be advantageous for when returning home in the dark. This way you will be able to see what you are doing.
